The Ringling Museum and Ca' d'Zan
Before we decided to visit Sarasota, I really did not know much about this city at all besides that Siesta Key was nearby. When I did my trip research I came across this amazing place called the John and Mable Ringing Museum. I became pretty obsessed with the Greatest Showman recently. Even though this was not owned by P.T. Barnum, the Ringlings bought the Barnum circus to create The Greatest Show on Earth. I had no idea this incredible site even existed. It is a definite MUST do in Sarasota. I recommend spending at least 3 or more hours at the entire property.
First we walked over to the Ca d’Zan which was the actual residence of John and Mable Ringling. Definitely do the John Tour AND the Mable Tour. Both tours take you to different spots in the house and do not repeat. Unfortunately you cannot take any photos inside of the house, but for once I actually enjoyed not taking photos (even though they would have been beautiful) The inside of the house is truly spectacular. Mable was a perfectionist at curating the home just so and attention to detail. She wanted every place you looked to have beauty, The exterior of the house is also incredible, as is the waterfront view.
After visiting the Ca d’Zan, we explored the grounds which included Mable’s rose garden and incredibly large Banyan Trees. We walked over to the Ringling Art museum which featured an enormous pink courtyard housing works of art. To do the two tours and visit the museum, it did cost $65 which was a bit pricey but I think totally worth it for a once in a lifetime experience.
